NASU key posts uncontested

The annual general meeting of the National Aquatic Sports Union (NASU) of Sri Lanka will be held on March 18 at Samurdhi Office, Conference Hall at Reid Avenue. All key posts will not be contested, controllers for swimming, diving, waterpolo, synchronized swimming, official's controller and aquatic sports controller will be picked by the Exco.

Rear Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda will carry on as the President of NASU for the third successive term. Rifdy Fahmy will be the secretary once again while Prateesh Seevaratnam will continue as treasurer. Meanwhile Nethru Nanayakkara will retain the assistant secretary's post.

The vice-presidents will be SP Kithsiri Dayananda, ASP K.P.N. Pathmadeva, Captain Gamini Gunasekera.

Cambrian cricketers get awards

Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa cricket team is in for a string of awards lined up by the college for their outstanding performance this season, taking top billing among the schools.

The Cambrian Cricket Wing headed by Secretary, Supun Madura Fernando will make these awards after the limited overs 'big match' between Prince of Wales and St. Sebastians College today (Sunday). Fernando distinguished himself taking a record 9 wickets for 9 runs in an innings for his school in an under-15 match during his time.

Sampath Bank 3 titles

Sampath Bank had a triple in Mercantile 'B' division hockey tournaments last year.

They won the League Tournament in January - April 2003 and followed it up with the win in the knock-out tourney in April-May and capped it all by winning the sevens tourney in October. In the sevens tourney, one of Sampath Bank's players Kapila Chandrapala was picked as the best player.

STC Matara beat St. Servatius by 7 wkts

St. Thomas' College, Matara beat their traditional rivals St. Servatius College easily by 7 wkts in the 5th annual encounter played at Uyanwatta stadium yesterday. Due to the non arrival of assigned umpires from Colombo, match was started at 11.20 with local A.C.U. umpires and overs were reduced to 45-a-side.

In reply to St. Servatius' paltry total of 100 all out in 40.2 overs the Thomians scored 102 for the loss of 3 wkts in 28.3 overs.

St. Servatius' College, Matara 100 all out in 40.2 overs (K. Rangana 31, J. Indrajith 15, P. Dharmapala 3/19, A. Indrasiri 2/14.

St. Thomas' College, Matara 102 for 3 wkts in 28.3 overs (M. Diminduhewa 58 not out (80 balls), Ranjan Kumara 29, Kasun Bodisha 2/26).

YMMA cricket and soccer tourneys

The All Ceylon YMMA Conference has made arrangements to hold its annual All Island Inter-YMMA 6-a-side cricket and 7-a-side soccer tournaments in Negombo on 14th March 2004 respectively.

Quite a good number of 'Y' branches from all parts of the country have sent entries this year and the 'Y' Conference has arranged to give away trophies, medals, certificates and cash prizes for the winning and runners-up teams.

The cricket tournament to be held in Kandy will be declared open by Thilina Tennakoon, Chairman, Cricket Board, Central Province and Al Haj A.L.M. Zarook, Managing Director, Kurugama Estate, Muruthalawa will grace the occasion as the chief guest.

The tournament will be hosted by Wattegedara YMMA and Negombo YMMA respectively.

Amal International beat Wesley 69/65

Amal International School beat Wesley College by 69 points to 65 in an under 15 basketball match at the Amal International School Courts yesterday.

Mercantile Novices badminton starts April 24

The Dulux Novices Individual Championship of the Mercantile Badminton Association (MBA) will be worked off at the S. Thomas' College Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia from April 24 to 26.

his is being sponsored by CIC Paints for the sixth consecutive year. With over 160 mercantile establishments affiliated to the MBA, some interesting fare could be witnessed and entries close on April 8 with Mrs. Sriyani Deepika, MBA's Tournament Secretary at Union Bank of Pakistan. (L.G.)
