Tax Amnesty Act violates Constitution

A Five judge bench of the Supreme Court has ruled that the Inland revenue Tax Amnesty Act No. 10 of 2003 violates the Constitution. The Supreme Court has made this ruling in accordance with the request made by the President to the Supreme Court to consider the legality of this Act and submit an opinion to her.

Former Minister, GA Batticaloa shot

Former Minister of Hindu Cultural Affairs and a Colombo district United National Party candidate Thiyagaraja Maheswaran was shot and seriously wounded by unidentified gunmen while he was returning after a campaign meeting at Ginthupitiya, Kotahena at 8 pm yesterday.

All systems go for April 2 polls

The curtain will come down on campaigning for general election 2004, at mid-night on Tuesday, March 30 bringing to a close intense propaganda activity and setting the stage for voting on Friday, April 2. Polling is scheduled to commence at 10,600 booths at 7.00 am and continue till 4.00 pm.
