New Year festival in Germany

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year was celebrated in Bonn, Germany on April 17 with the participation of a large number of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim nationals living in the North Rhine Westfalia State.

The festival was sponsored by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Bonn, the Bonn Buddhist Association, the Bonn-Sri Lanka Mithuru Sansadaya and the Vipassi Foundation in Bonn.

The cultural show consisted of a number of events including a Sinhala and Tamil folk songs competition, Kandyan dancing, Bharatha Natyam and the New Year Beauty Queen contest.

They were held following religious observances performed by Ven. Kendagolla Palitha Thera, Paster Dr. Sinnathurai and Hindu Priest Sri Arumugam Paskara.

Popular singing duo Sanath and Malkanthi Nandasiri also performed at the cultural show.

A crew from the Independent Television Network was in Bonn to televise the cultural show to be telecast over ITN and Lanka TV in Europe.
