30 athletic coaches for advanced course The Athletic Association of Sri Lanka in association with the National Olympic Committee, Germany and Sri Lanka will conduct an advanced coaching course in Colombo from May 17 to June 9. The course will be conducted by Dr. Joachim Bauer, the German Coach, which be attended by thirty active coaches who will be selected from among those who apply to AA of Sri Lanka. According to Prema Pinnewela, Secretary AA of Sri Lanka, this course will be of a high standard and coaches who perform satisfactorily will be awarded certificates. A fee of Rs. 5,000 will be charged. Special consideration will be given in selection to coaches involved with the junior athletic development program. Applicants should note that a satisfactory working knowledge in English is essential to secure the benefits of this course. World Athletic Day An athletic meet for those under-15 and under-16 both boys and girls will be held on May 9 in connection with the World Athletic Day at the Torrington Grounds starting at 9.00 a.m. The events to be held are boys - 100 and 400 metres hurdles, 1500 metres, long jump, discuss throw, walking race 3 kilo metres. Girls - 100 and 200 metres hurdles, high jump, javelin throw, walking race 1 km. Competitors could enter for three events and applications should be sent to Bernard Perera, Assistant Secretary, AA of Sri Lanka at 33, Torrington Place, Colombo 7 before April 31. The winners will be presented certificates and T-shirts by the International Athletic Federation. There will be lottery amongst winners at this meet and the lucky'uns will get the opportunity to represent Sri Lanka at the Junior World Athletic Championships to be held in Morocco from July 14 to 17.
