Every dog has its day, and so it was for 'Lavinia' when the mangy mutt stumbled on to the path of Kim Cooling almost six months ago. Cooling, a resident of Woodford, London and a regular visitor to Sri Lanka has been actively involved in helping stray dogs and has during her numerous visits, been initiating general vaccination and sterilisation programmes. However, the white pup with doleful eyes captured Cooling's attention, securing a permanent place in her heart. The ardent canine fan, who was staying at the Mt. Lavinia Hotel at that time, named the pup 'Lavinia' and took her to London, where she was placed in quarantine for six months, which will be over next week. Cooling, who is presently in Colombo, returns to London, where she will pick up Lavinia from the quarantine and take her home.
Jobs for 55,000 graduates, non-graduates

Fifty five thousand unemployed graduates and non graduates are being provided with employment commencing next Friday, under the Rata Perata programme as promised in the Freedom Alliance General Election manifesto.
