ABS to venture into 3 countries

Academy of Business Studies (Pvt) Ltd (ABS), headquartered in Sri Lanka, known as the best business school in Asia, plans to venture into India, Maldives and the UAE in early 2005.

According to its Chief Executive, Faris Ismail, ABS would venture into UAE early next year while plans are afoot to establish itself in five cities in India as well as in the Maldives within the next one-and-a-half years.

"During the second phase of our expansion, we would move into Pakistan, Singapore and Malaysia," he added. As an initial step," we would establish our first branch in Kandy, in June," said Ismail.

He said, "they have invested heavily on improving the resources as well as the processes. Some of them include a Student Development Centre to monitor the performance of students, a Learning and Support Centre which provides individual attention to students who need that facility.

"In addition, we have made a big investment on Information Technology, which includes software that had been developed to prepare students for mock exams.

The students can even sit for these exams at the convenience of their homes.

At present, we have started a separate company to market the software to the education industry."

The vision of ABS is to be the most important partner of CIMA London and, once we achieve it, ABS would be known in the region as a brand name with a world class operation.

ABS was set up with the aim of providing quality education opportunities to students aiming at obtaining professional qualifications in a range of business related examinations, in Accounting, Management, Marketing and Information Technology.

Apart from CIMA, ABS had also excelled in providing quality tuition for a wide range of educational examinations including the Charted Institute of Marketing UK, the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators UK, the British Computer Society, the Association of Bookkeepers UK, the Association of accounting Technicians SL, Certified Management Accountants of SL and the Bachelors Degree in IT of the University of Colombo.

Some of the firsts achieved by ABS

* First accredited centre for CIM in Sri Lanka, local representative for ABE's own tuition program, and appointed ABS as an exclusive tuition provider in the country

* First accredited tuition provider in Sri Lanka and second in Asia for CIMA computer based assessment (after CIMA Sri Lanka division)

* First accredited centre for ACCA-CAT & level 1 - appointed exclusive tuition provider for ICSA in Sri Lanka - produced best results for 6 consecutive semesters for BIT as per the official website of the university of Colombo

* Accredited as the first CIMA quality partner in Sri Lanka following a rigorous assessment of local institutes by CIMA, UK

* Colombo Stock Exchange selected ABS to conduct programmes including graduate programs for stock brokers out of 10 institutes that tendered.

* CIMA, UK appointed ABS as their first strategic business partner in the world.
