Large crowds throng to see Sacred Tooth Relic

Kandy South Group Corr.

Large crowds thronged to see the special exposition of the sacred tooth relic which is currently on at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy.

Large crowds joined the queues from early morning yesterday from the Dharmapala Mawatha and the Boat house sides and likewise similar queues were seen at the other two queues lined for the pilgrims for this special exposition. Some were seen seated on the pavements while the queues towards the boat house had specially constructed shelters all the way.

A feature of this Special Exposition is that there has been evening showers in and around Kandy during the past few days bringing relief to a drought which has imposed water cuts in Kandy and the suburbs. The present rains should activate the dried up springs and other sources of water and also induce luxuriant growth of the greenery.

For the convenience of the large numbers of pilgrims coming into the Kandy City, temporary toilets had been constructed at various points and also pure drinking water is available through plastic shells placed around the Kandy Lake and other places at close intervals by the Kandy Municipality.

The city itself is kept clean by regular collection of garbage by the contractors. A large number of policemen have been deployed to meet any situation and they have been courteous in dealing with the members of the public. The pilgrims who come over here have no problems at all as everything is carried out in a very orderly manner. After worshipping the sacred tooth relic, they leave through the four exist points to their destinations.

Both the state and private transport services have strengthened the bus services in several routes for the convenience of the pilgrims.

This Special Exposition of the sacred tooth relic will end on May 1st.
