Over 100 at EU - Sri Lanka Partenariat by Elmo Leonard Representatives from around 100 companies from 15-European Union member countries are scheduled to visit Sri Lanka on June 3, 4 to participate in what is termed, `EU-Sri Lanka Partenariat 2004.' Hundred-and-fifty local companies are picked by the European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (ECCSL) based in Colombo, to meet their European counterparts, which will make it the largest one-to-one business match-making event, here. Cooperation between the visitors and the hosts, will be limited to six sectors, being, infrastructure, IT and electronics, agro foods, machinery and light engineering, educational services and the leisure industry. ECCSL, also appointed 15 national counsellors from each member State, such as the British Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Commerce of Ireland and the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce to pick their corporates, ECCSL General Manager, Sujeevan Perera said. This is part of the EU move to replace trade with aid, to the Third World. The European corporates, are looking for joint ventures, capital injection, marketing partners, trade agreements between corporates of East and West and technology transfer, Perera said. In the leisure industry, sector, 19 local companies are seeking cooperation with the EU firms. |
