Ray of hope for school kids by Shanika Sriyananda Giving a ray of hope to the country's children that the education standards will be upgraded, the National Children's Lobby on Education to mark the Global Action Week which commenced, last week, with a political commitment to implement a national educational policy and speedy action of re-opening of schools that have been closed down. The Minister of Power and Energy Susil Premajayantha and Deputy Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena pledged to implement a national education policy to improve the quality of the country's education amidst of over 300 children participated in the lobby representing the eight provinces. Minister Premajayantha promised the children to look into their shortcomings with a national educational policy, which is to be implemented by the UPFA government shortly. Minister Premajayantha also said that the government was in the process of introducing an Act on Accountability to revive the administrative system. According to Minister, over 600 schools have been closed down up to now and the government is strongly considering of improving the infrastructure facilities in rural schools. |
