Dr. Harsha K. Alles wins gold award

Gateway's Dr. Harsha K. Alles received the prestigious gold award for "Small Scale Business Leader of the Year 2003" at the presentation of the CIMA Janashakthi Pinnacle Business Leader of the Year Awards ceremony held on Tuesday at the Colombo Plaza where the Sri Lankan division of the CIMA recognised and rewarded outstanding achievers of the business community.

Dr. Harsha Alles is a director of the Gateway groups of organisations. He is a fully qualified medical doctor and has served as a lecturer of the medical school of the University of Colombo where he also did his PhD in Tropical Medicine with his research studies being supported by the World Health Organisation.

From 1995 onwards, Dr. Alles decided to dedicate himself fully to Gateway. He has been responsible for the remarkable growth that the organisation has enjoyed to date.

Currently, Gateway has 2 international schools and a chain of 16 IT training sectors with programmes also being widely used in countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia and the UK. In 2000, he was recognised as the Outstanding Young Person of the Year for the contribution he has made towards IT education of children.

In making the award to Dr. Alles, the panel of distinguished judges chaired by Ms. Anushya Coomaraswam had this to say, "Our Business leader among small organisations, had a passion that made him change direction to move from a very traditional line that he had initially received training for, into one that was very different; the courage that enabled the decision; a vision that developed a small institution into a dynamic operation; and saw the bigger picture earlier than many others would. The reward for all these was an expanded business operation with one of the products being developed for a strong established international market".
