CNCI Achiever awards boost industrial growth Boosting the image of the company, increasing the confidencee of the employees and striving to maintain and better the award criteria are some of the benefits we received by being the large category 'gold' winner of the CNCI achiever of Industrial Excellence for two consecutive years, said Mahendra Jayasekera Managing Director, Lanka Tiles Ltd. He said " we are definitely trying our best to win the award for the third consecutive year as it is one well worth winning." It is an important award as it is sector specific and considers all parameters such as the turnover during the past three years, number of employees, level of productivity, environment friendliness as well as the benefits given to the staff. "As the award has helped to build the confidence of the employees, they are also striving hard to improve the parameters so that we could win for the third time," he said. The award had helped us to boost our image both locally as well as internationally, added Jayasekera. Secretary General CEO, Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) Upali Samarasinghe, said the objective of the awards ceremony was to promote industrial growth in the country by recognising the entrepreneurs, specially those who had excelled in the manufacturing field. The evaluation is made on a detailed criteria which broadly encompasses the company, its staff and the environment. Evaluation of applications would be made by an independent panel of judges appointed by the chamber and would comprise eminent personalities in both public and the private sector. On-sight inspections are also carried out to select the finalists by a team of competent auditors appointed by the panel of judges. He said that winners would be selected in four categories large, medium, small and micro while the participants could vie for honours at provincial as well as national level. Each category would be awarded gold, silver, bronze trophies with two merit certificates. "We hope to award a platinum trophy too for all categories," he added. A special feature of the awards scheme is to recognise local industrialists who have set up manufacturing units in the SAARC region on their own or as joint ventures where the local investment is over 50% and manage by a Sri Lankan. Each SAARC regional country chamber is eligible to nominate an outstanding industrialist for recognition to intensifies co-operation among the member chambers. The awards ceremony would be held on July 16 at Ceylon Continental Hotel. The media sponsors for the event are the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (ANCL), MBC/ MTV and Sirasa while several leading corporates are expected to provide financial sponsorships and co-sponsorships. |
