'Genie' enjoys 40% market share

Hayleys Consumer Products Ltd., (HCPL) the sole agent for Philips, the global electronics leader in lighting has sold more than 100,000 units of the Philips 'Genie' - the more compact and powerful version of the compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), over the last 12 months.

The Company said the market share for these 'Genie' compact CFL bulbs has grown to 40 per cent, because they are sold with a guarantee, a key factor in the product's growing popularity among local consumers. Overall market growth for the Philips Genie has been 150 per cent since March 2003.

With a life span of 3 years, the Philips Genie can reduce energy consumption by 80 per cent over an ordinary incandescent bulb. Its remarkable compact size enables it to fit into even the most delicate light fittings without jutting out, a built-in safety fuse assures the safety of the user, and it has a flicker free start, the Company said. Over the last 12 months, more than 276 units of 'Genie' bulbs have been sold per day, General Manager of Hayleys Consumer Products Ltd., Fuard Saibukandu said.

"The Genie may last up to six times longer, produce less heat than incandescent lamps and is ideal for hard-to-reach areas, since it does not need to be changed often," he said. An 11-watt CFL is the equivalent in light output to a 60-watt incandescent bulb, and it will last approximately 6,000 - 8000 hours," Saibukandu added.

The Genie comes in two tones, 'cool daylight' and 'warm white' and is designed with standard incandescent screw and pin type bases.

Hayleys Consumer Products Ltd., markets and distributes an extensive range of consumer products of major international and local brands such as Philips, Fujifilm, Daewoo, Kenwood, Braun, Usha Shriram, Bayer, Xcella and Daytron.
