He's got a soft spot for Oasis, a voice that seems to have won him name and fame and a character that could be called extremely suave. It takes a lot to make him talk, but sing he will from the very depths of his soul. "I just take a guitar and sing, that's my kinda music", says DilanJayakody, the winner of TNL On Stage last year. Looking forward to release an album, he says that he's completed seven tracks which includes a Sinhalese song as well. "I hope to record my songs so that they get air play. But before the album, I'd like to form a band that would like to play my kind of music. I'm on the look out for people who are interested in playing alternative music including slow rock as well," he says adding, that they shouldn't mind playing his originals. Talking about his original tracks, Dilan says his inspirations were his own thoughts, "It's what I feel, what I think is right and what I've experienced in life. The first song which is called 'Cotton Sun' is a love song which has lots of feelings to it. The second one 'Shine' is a spiritual song, the third song 'Sanity' is about the simplicity of things," he continues, "The fourth song which is called 'Mr. Mayor'is about a guy who has total control over his relationship. It shows the shortcomings of the case.
"I've been singing with Rock Company since the end of last year. I've opened for all their shows since January 2004", says Dilan. Having played for Rock Company gigs at Negombo, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya Dilan says that he's quite happy with the break that he got with the crowd, "I mainly focus on Alternative music and I'm so grateful to Ajith as he's given me a chance to expose my music and come before the crowds. I feel very lucky to have opened for all their shows since January considering the fact that some bands don't even get to perform on a regular basis." He says that the bands who play with Rock Company were really benevolent in their words and deeds, "Especially members of Stigmata and Whirlwind were very helpful and Ajith gives his maximum support going to the extent where he helps me to choose my songs and get the lyrics. Ajith is going to help me record my songs," says Dilan looking rather hopeful. Dilan has been quite busy last year. "APIIT organised a concert called 'Peace Rocks' and I did a guest performance for which the response was quite good. I sang 'wonderwall' and 'only wanna be with you,'" he says and adds that he also performed at 'Simplicity', an unplugged concert which was sponsored by TNL. "I sang three covers there but when I sing for Rock Company meetings, I make it a point to sing one of my original tracks. And that was the time when 3 Coins wanted some entertainment at the Hilton Pub. Shane Berenger from Sound Journey invited me to sing with him every Friday and I performed there for about two months." Dilan adds he's taken a break from the scene and plays only with Rock Company at the moment. "I've also contacted SLBC, and I'm lucky to be able to record my songs there," says Dilan talking about the songs that he's composed. |

The fifth song, 'Love's enough' is about how love matters more than
other things that go into a relationship and the sixth song called 'Dammed
Love' is about giving 100% in a relationship. "The Sinhalese track is
about the reasons why you love somebody," Dilan says. Determined to
put his words into deeds, Dilan emphasise on the fact that he needs guys
who could help him form a band, "I'm searching for talented people
out there who will be able to support me to make my dream a reality,"
he says inviting the young musicians out there.
