Meelad-Un-Nabi messages

Promote peace and harmony - President

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, in her message to mark the birth celebrations of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, has urged that we commit ourselves to strive to conform to his teachings by promoting peace and harmony.

The President states in her Meelad-Un-Nabi message:

"I am pleased to send out greetings on this day when the followers of Islam in Sri Lanka and across the world celebrate the birth of Holy Prophet Muhammad.

"The universal teachings of Prophet Muhammad preach humanism and compassion highlighting the path of non-violence as the better path to peace. On this holy occasion of the Prophet's birthday, let us commit ourselves to strive to conform to his teachings by promoting peace and harmony.

"In line with the spirit of his teachings, let us lay aside our differences and unite to raise our nation to great heights. "I extend my heartiest greetings and good wishes to the followers of Islam in Sri Lanka on this very special day."

Minister Fowzie's message

Environment and Natural Resources Minister A.H.M. Fowzie in his Prophet Muhammed's birth day (Meeladun-un-Nabi) message has appealed to the Muslims in Sri Lanka to resolve on this day to have a change of heart to follow the Holy Quran and the teachings of the Prophet of Islam, which emphasises on patriotism, respect for other communities and love of humanity.

Minister Fowzie's message:

"On this very significant day for us, I wish to ask all Muslims to ponder deeply over our present conditions as a society and what the future holds for us.

"We must also think how we can relate the Message of our Prophet to our lives and apply the same to secure improvement of present conditions. Though, in political activity there is an apparent height attained, it also poses a danger of political alienation. In the field of education too we are still far behind the other communities. Even when we look around the Muslim countries, the situation there too is not what we can feel happy about. We should not close our eyes to our weaknesses.

"We should be able to question ourselves of the mistakes we had made in the past and how to correct them in the future. The simple answer we would be getting will be that we Muslims have been divided into many camps, disregarding the teachings of Islam to hold on to the cord of Allah. If we reflect our minds on to what could be the solution to our present day problems it is clear that getting back on to the right track, back to the fold of religion is the only solution", he said.

Islam preaches peace, unity ,friendship - Alavi Mowlana

"Islam preaches peace, unity and friendship among communities. On this important day I appeal the Muslims to play an important role to find a peaceful solution for the ongoing ethnic issue. It is our duty to give the fullest co-operation to President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga who has taken an initiative to take the peace process forward" states President of the Sri Lanka Muslim Federation and Western Province Governor Al-Haj Seyed Alavi Mowlana in his Prophet Mohammed's (Pbuh) birthday message.

Unity among Muslims is very essential. Muslims must learn from the Quran and Hadith. It is their duty to serve for peace in the country - he added. Muslims are perturbed at the killings in Palestine by Israelis and the situation in Iraq. On this significant day I convey and greetings and goodwishes for the Muslims.
