Thuhashini - wins Best Player of the Year award for 3rd year by LAL GUNASEKERA A former Sri Lanka national amateur women's champion, Thuhashini Selvaratnam, was once again adjudged the Player of the year by the Arizona State Golf Association (ASGA) on points earned in tournaments played and won during the year 2003. This was the third consecutive year she won this prestigious award. She is also the Arizona State Stroke-Play champion for the last four years, and this year (2004), she won the Club Championship of the Desert Hills Golf Club in Arizona last week. She has also won the Arizona State Amateur Championship for three years, and have represented her State in Match-Play tournaments regularly. Thuhashini is the Operations Manager of the Arizona State golf Association and before leaving for the USA, during the 1999-2000 season, she won seven national titles within nine months. They were the Sri Lanka Open Amateur title for the third time, Singapore Open Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Open Amateur Championship, China Open Amateur Championship, Thailand Open Amateur Championship, All-India Open amateur Championship as well as the Emirates Open Amateur Championship. She also won the Epson Sourjana Open Amateur Championship in Kuala Lumpur, but was runner-up at the Malaysian Open Amateur Championship too during this same period. |
