Chuck it man! Chucking must have been lethal when umpires originally did take note. If it was lethal, then it must have been hurled by the 'Quickies' with their once ill famed "Body-line", bouncers. A slow spinner's straightened or deformed (apologies) arm can never be harmful to cause any consternation or adjustments to the law. Spinning is all what this bowler does. The Spinners weaponry of guile, wile and mesmerising, spiced with the occasional quicker ball to give variety and impact is just adding beauty and glamour to the game. Cheating was never mentioned by nations India, Pakistan, West Indies or South Africa, the once colour conscious people. Evil forces are at work to keep double standards going. All and sundry are aware of a slow bowler's race for prestige and history, is on 'Underarm' bowling simply went ignored. One must be in the proper nation. If straws to be grabbed (Doosra?) our Tita Nathanielsz of the forties and fifties, the Colts and Ceylon Cricketer, too would have possibly got the 'axe' and called a fraud for by-passing the umpire with a deceptive 'slow bowler run up' of 3-4 paces to finish with trajectories of thunderbolt proportions. Countries are being knit together by this wonderful game as the present series of the sub continents. Here's heartfelt desire and hope for much fairplay for the beauteous game to proceed into the future with all wickets intact indeed! W. Meadows, - Ratmalana. |
