Aircraft engineers sign CA with SriLankan Airlines

SriLankan Airlines signed a Collective Agreement with the Association of Licensed Aircraft Engineers after cordial discussions between the management and the association. The Collective Agreement was signed on March 10, on behalf of SriLankan Airlines by CEO, Peter Hill, Chief Technical Officer, Capt. Dick Hutton, Head of Human Resources, Sunil Dissanayake and Senior Manager, Aircraft Maintenance, Ian Dunning. The Association of Licensed Aircraft Engineers was represented by its President, Sanjeewa Dissanayake, Secretary, Samantha de Mel and Treasurer, Samitha Ranasinghe.

"We are very pleased to have come to an agreement for working in an environment of industrial peace and harmony with one of our core employee groups, our engineers. We are sure it will contribute positively towards the growth of the airline," said CEO Peter Hill.

The Collective Agreement effective 1st March 2004 to 28th February 2006, incorporates salary benefits and other enhancements, including a revision of the engineers' salary scales and a revision of the annual increment scheme.

"The signing of this agreement marks another step in strengthening the relationship between the company and its different employee groups, which is mutually beneficial in sustaining a harmonious industrial relations environment, which is a critical success factor for both the company and its employees," said Sunil Dissanayake, Head of Human Resources.

Sanjeewa Dissanayake, President of the Association of Licensed Aircraft Engineers said, "negotiations between the Engineers' Association and the SriLankan Airlines management for the new CBA were conducted in a very cordial atmosphere. Considering the current position of the company, we were able to reach a settlement which we feel is beneficial to both parties."

Capt. Dick Hutton, Chief Technical Officer of the Airline, said, "I am very pleased to see the successful conclusion of negotiations and the signing of this collective agreement, which will ensure the levels of remuneration for the company's engineers. It is heartening to see our engineers being supportive of the company's objectives."

This is the second agreement between the Airline and the Association, the first having been in force from January 1st, 1999 to March 31st 2002, but continued to be effective until the new agreement was signed.

During the negotiations, the management was represented by Head of Human Resources, Sunil Dissanayake, Manager, Human Resources Ali Kamil, HR Systems and Administration Manager, Hiranya De Silva, Chief Technical Officer Capt. Dick Hutton and Senior Manager Aircraft Maintenance Ian Dunning.
