"Chandrika Thank You''

That comes from many Homes many HEARTS. Women, Mothers, Grandmothers who in family togetherness live a hearts' journey throughout their lives.

Women suffer - as you have - as I have - we all have. Marriage is a Multifaceted Business Homes Rich or Poor need Knowledge much more than Money. It is hidden - earnings in Waste Control, Recycling, Correct Use of Cleaning Agents.

Indigenous Food and Medicine

Very evident with a women exported for foreign exchange earnings for this country. The Mother - Daughter link in learning is no more.

Sons are brought up in sleazy mediocrity, education sketchy.

Young people today are users not consumers.

Cases of incest increase daily, teenage daughters have no protection in a 10ft. x 10ft. home from an alcoholic drunk father.

The Foreign Employment Bureau states there are 1 million Sri Lankans working abroad. And 70% of them Mothers, 80% housemaids. We read that over 250 Sri Lankans die abroad annually - mostly housemaids. this year January to 30 March there have been 30 deaths.

There are 22,000 prisoners in jail.

Of this 70% are Remandees,

25% is the conviction rate.

40% should not even be there i.e. 8500 persons.

The Government spends Rs. 3800 on each prisoner per month. Almost 45,000 for one person - A vast sum of tax payers money. Prof. S.T. Hettige, "People who do not have their feet on the ground are advising the leaders on Education and Vocational Trainings. Human Resources Development. Destroying the Family Structure - Asian Society bases its moral claims on the worth and dignity of the individual.

In the 60s a graduate accepted a bus conductor's job. Machine in hand in Uniform he was a man to be respected. He walked the bus a somebody. It was also with the Cleaners of Public Buildings. They came with equipment in uniform. The work they did with their hands was respected.

Today the bus conductors are in everyday untidy coloured T-shirts and the cleaner comes in and throws a bucket of water in the toilet.

Emphasis on Hands - and we have Millions of Hands as 80% leave school and are drop-outs. Placing monetary value on Hands was well demonstrated recently in the Prisons, Welikada.

Mr. Marzook Com. General has certainly used HANDS as of old, when Prisoners came to the Residency Kachcheri and public buildings to clean up. The Prison decor and gardens are a pleasure to look at today. Times reflection on Hands and work done has to be valued.

Prisons of old were always an eyesore outside and inside. Tape recording an Ex JVP Stalwart of Elpitiya "Madam please leave me out of politics. I spent six years in horrid jails often standing while I slept." Francis Pietersz ex CCS and GA Jaffna - of CIMOGG "Amnesty yes but these youth many below 30 years of age are worried about their future.

There are plenty of jobs in the Construction Industry," as Chairman Bilva Mangal of Construction Constructors' Institute says and is confirmed by GA Vavuniya Mr. Ganesh. But no takers - why? Frances observes "the Psychological Income and Prestige is very important to the Youth today more than money." Says Judy Grayson head of the UN Agency for Mine Sweeping in the North. "When we put them in UNIFORM there were takers for the job."

Lalith Athulathmudali stated many years ago: Thathweya was very important and that means Uniform. The Uniform makes it a respectable job not a menial labour manual job.

The money is good. These Youth must be offered training in Vocational Training Institutions new existent but for lack of donor monies are not Training to capacity. Basic Skills is what the Construction Industry needs and what any Government needs to make a dent in the rising unemployment figures.

As for work sites Maintenance jobs across the country schools - hospitals and most allocated budgets lapse from year to year. If not we are going to have explosive Youth Unrest problems in the very near future.

Expand the uniform idea and accelerate the process of getting it done.
