Religious ceremonies at President's House

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga will attend religious ceremonies today and will offer alms to 100 Bhikkus at the President's House, to mark Vesak celebrations.

Bhikkus from the Three Nikayas will be present to accept the alms offered by the President.

She will also inaugurate a program to enhance opportunities for the development of the rural economy and cultural revival in the country.

The day's program will end with a Bhakthi Gee presentation in the evening at the President's House.

Death of Beatrice Dias

Ms. Beatrice (Gauder) Dias, Mother-in-law of Jayatilleke de Silva, Editor, Sunday Observer expired. Funeral today at 5.00 p.m. at Nawala Kanatta.

Financial assistance needed

Mr. Vadivel Gunapala of 90/72 Wilgoda Road, Kurunegala is suffering from severe Aortic Valve Disease, has been advised to undergo early Aortic Valve Replacement surgery by the doctor. The surgery costs Rs. 400,000, further he is a father of two children and his condition does not allow him to occupy in any job. In order to survive his valuable life he highly expects donations from Well-wishers. His savings, Account Number in Hatton National Bank, Kurunegala is 02-4341901-9.

Seeks medical assistance

Hariot Jayaweera is suffering from a serious kidney problem. Her both kidneys are not functioning. She is 57 years old. Doctors have advised to get the haemodialysis (This is a treatment of artificial blood purification like a function of a kidney) thrice a week. But due to financial constraints it is being done now only twice a week. It costs Rs. 6000 for one dialysis. Currently this is being done at Apollo hospital, Colombo. When her heart improves she has to go to India for kidney transplantation. It also costs around Rs. 10 Lakhs.
