Sri Lanka in Asian and Australian Water Skiing contest

A six-member team from Sri Lanka Water Ski Association along with the Managing Director Lanka Sportreizen Tilak Weerasinghe left for China to participate in the Guanhao Cup 2004 Asian and Australian Water Ski and Wakeboarding Championships 2004, which were held, from May 1 to 7.

According to Mr. Paul Fong - President of the Asian Water Ski Association this year's event was their biggest event for the past 10 years with participants from all the countries in the Asian and Australian region.

This is the first time that a Sri Lankan water ski team participated at an international championship.

It was estimated that over 100,000 people witnessed the tournament held over four days of competition and with the international TV coverage, there would have been over 1 billion people would have watched the competitions.

In view of the above, Sri Lanka's image as a destination for recreational activities would have got a tremendous boost.
