President commended for timely action in Kandapola

by Deraniyagala Correspondent

President of the Aziz Democratic Workers Congress, Ashruff Aziz has commended the timely action taken by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to control the unrest in Kandapola and ensure normalcy in the area.

He has also praised the President for paying compensation to the families affected by the incident.

In a statement, Aziz has further said that President Kumaratunga took an impartial stance by transferring the Police personnel allegedly involved in the Kandapola incident.

"The President has won the confidence of the plantation workers by sending a top level team led by Premier Mahinda Rajapakse to Kandapola soon after the incident aggravated. The new government under the leadership of President Kumaratunga should act in similar manner in future to put down any type of violence against the plantation workers," Aziz added.
