SAARC journalists' body leaders due here The President of the journalists' body of the SAARC region, the South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA), Reazzuddin Ahamed and the Secretary-General of SAFMA, Imtiaz Alam, will visit Sri Lanka later this week as part of their on going tour of the region. SAFMA is the sole body for professionals of the mass media of the SAARC region. Founded in 2000, SAFMA has Chapters comprising senior members of the national mass media (in the print, television and radio sectors) as well as media scholars and analysts in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Reazzuddin Ahmed is a leading newspaper editor in Bangladesh and Imtiaz Alam serving as the founding Secretary-General of the Association is a senior journalist in the Jhang Group of newspapers of Pakistan. They are expected to hold meetings with the Minister of Mass Media, other officials in the media sector, media industry leaders and institutions related to the mass media such as the Press Complaints Commission and the College of Journalism. They will also officiate in the ceremonial International Launch of the 'South Asian Journal', a quarterly scholarly journal on regional affairs which SAFMA has just begun publishing. |
