Attractive prizes for Mercedes-Benz Golf

The long awaited Mercedes-Benz Trophy , Sri Lanka Country Finals 2004 Golf Tournament will take place at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) on Saturday 29th May 2004. This tourney is being held for the 13th consecutive year, this tournament will be sponsored by Diesel and Motor Engineering Company Ltd (DIMO).

Mercedes-Benz Trophy is only open for Royal Colombo, Victoria, Digana and Pelawatte Golf Club members along with a few invitees from the sponsors. As last year, the tournament will be conducted in three handicap levels as follows: Group A-00-12, Group B-13-20, Group C-21-24

Attractive prizes will be offered, including return air tickets to Australia for winners and first runners up of each handicap group. The winners and runners up sponsored by DIMO will quality for the " Asian Finals " to be held in Gold Coast Australia later this year and subsequently the World Finals in Stuttgart, Germany, the home of Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz Trophy is the only Golf Tournament in the country which gives International exposure to amateur golfers.

Last year, Nirmal Hettiaratchi was the winner of Group A, while Mohan Ratnayake became the 1st runner up. Asiri Iddamalgoda was the winner of Group B, while Kumar Boralessa became the 1st runner up. In Group C, Amal Cabrall was the winner with Sherwin Arsekularatne being the 1st runner up. These six winners from the three handicap groups took part in the Asian Finals, which was held in Gold Coast, Australia, out of which Sherwin Arsekularatne qualified for the World Finals that was held in Stuttgart, Germany.

The other attractive prizes on offer for participants are, nearest to the pin (16th hole), best stableford score-six hidden holes, youngest player, oldest player and hole-in-one. The winner of the hole-in-one will be offered a return Air Ticket to Germany including a tour of Mercedes-Benz factory and the museum in Stuttgart Germany.

Mercedes-Benz Trophy is regarded as the most exclusive and prestigious event in the local golfing scene and every year increasing numbers of golf enthusists join the tournament. In fact, last year Mercedes-Benz Trophy Sri Lankan Finals created history by staging the biggest ever Golf Tournament in Colombo. Over 220 participants took part in last year's tournament and never in the history of RCGC, had there been the patronage of such a large number of players.

The Asian Finals is scheduled for August and will be held in Queensland, Australia from 4th - 6th August this year. Asian Finals will tee off at Lakelands Golf Club and the Links Resort Golf Club located at picturesque Hope Island. Both golf clubs are regarded as world class.

The world finals are scheduled to be held in Stuttgart, Germany from 23rd - 28th September.
