Cabin for a romantic evening at Mt.Lavinia by Jayampathy Jayasinghe The two wooden cabins stood on top of each other with a long wooden staircase leading to it as if a ship had been washed ashore at Mount Lavinia. The two= man Calypso band, a Hawaiian guitarist and a drummer clad in Batik shirts and white hats entertained the crowd with their melodies to the delight of the diners. We were ushered in by Manager Samson and Lambert to the cabin at the first level. We went up the staircase to the cabin overlooking the sea. The sea was choppy with gusty winds blowing across the cabin. A cabin without windows to stare into the distant sky in to the galaxy of stars. The cabin consists of a small round table with two chairs. Mount Lavinia Hotel's Public Relations Manager, Oshadie de Silva, says reservations for the cabins have to be made early to avoid disappointment. She said the guests would be left absolutely alone. Not even the butlers would be there to pick up titbits of your private conversation. However the butlers could be summoned by sounding a bell. The men behind the cabin concept were Samson and Lambert. The evening could be more pleasant if the sea was not rough, I thought. Imagine two persons left alone in a sky cab sort of contraption wining and dining in style. Undoubtedly it looked romantic- a secluded place for a couple to spend an evening. It could even be an ideal place for a business meeting where even four persons could be accommodated on request. |
