The cremation of the Most. Ven. Rambukwelle Sri Vipassi Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter of the Siyam Maha Nikaya will take place with State honours at the Asgiriya Police Grounds, Kandy this evening, June 13 at 3 pm. The cremation proceeding will start at 1.30 pm and the procession, with the Ransivige bearing the mortal remains of the Thera will begin at 2 pm from the Malwatte Viharaya.

Funeral procession will go through the Sangharaja Mawatha, Sri Dalada Veediya and Sri Pushpadana Mawatte. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will make orations followed by 'anusasana' by senior Bhikkus from all Nikayas.

The bier will be placed around 4.10 pm and the pyre will be lit after the rituals by the Maha Nayaka Thera's relatives at 4.30 pm with the gun salute by the Police and the Army. Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijeratne will deliver the vote of thanks.
