Dy. Minister sips beer in brothel by a Staff Correspondent A Deputy Minister and a son of a Provincial Council Minister from Kurunegala were found in a plush brothel at Kollupitiya, sipping beer with another businessman and the woman owner of the brothel when a police party from the Colombo Detective Division (CCD) raided in the wee hours of the morning last week. The owner and eight local girls were taken into custody and were later produced before the Fort Magistrate who remanded them till July 23. The raid took place around 3 a.m. When police demanded the identity of the Minister he had initially refused but had attempted to escape from the 8th floor of the building. A senior police officer said the two police decoys were introduced to the madam of the brothel by a tri-shaw driver. The madam had then demanded Rs. 3000 from each to provide a woman. But as the policemen had only Rs. 2700 they were ordered out of the premises by the madam. In the meantime the other policemen waiting outside had stormed the house on receiving a signal. Two foreign women were also in the adjoining room and the police recorded their statements and released them. |
