Madras-Colombo Regatta by Leslie Fernando The popular Far-Eastern Amateur Rowing Association Regatta (FEARA) organised and hosted by the Colombo Rowing Club with the blessings of the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL) will be held from October 21 to 23 on the Beira Lake. This is the second occasion the Colombo Rowing Club is conducting this event. FEARA was last held in Colombo in 1999. The executive committee of the CRC which met on Wednesday decided to invite oarsmen from 14 clubs from India, Pakistan, Brunei, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar and Singapore. The regatta will be for both men and women and the rowers will complete in the sculls, pairs, fours and also double sculls. The competitors of CRC (both men and women) will be picked after the Madras-Colombo Regatta to be held in Chennai, India on June 26. Twelve men and four women are training on the Beira Lake in the mornings and evenings in preparation for the Madras-Colombo Regatta. The rowers will leave on June 23 to Chennai. |
