Cabinet decisions

$ 2.38 million for Jaffna Technical College development

Cabinet approved a paper presented by Tertiary Education minister Piyasena Gamage to allocate US$ million 2.38 to develop the Jaffna Technical College. Under this project the technical college will be upgraded as a Institute of Technology. It is proposed to modernise buildings and laboratories of the technical college and introduce new courses as well as increase annual student enrolment.

The financial assistance for the project will be provided by the Korean Government.

Ministry sources said that the Korean government agreed to release the agreed aids to this type of development projects in the North and East without any conditions while some of other countries and donor agencies are emphasising a progress of peace talks as a pre condition to release the agreed aid package at the Tokyo donor conference.
