Entrepreneurship not to be confused with chance Many people mistake entrepreneurship for chance, forgetting that nobody gets rich by chance. There are certain skills needed and an entrepreneur is someone who has mastered the skills. These were the views expressed by the incoming Chartered Institute of Management Accountants(CIMA) President Claude Perera. Among his plans for CIMA are making CIMA the first choice of employees, developing a passion for perfection by getting the members to have a different perspective in their jobs, arranging a loan facility for students at concessionary rates, continue the outreach program, provide English education to rural students and complete the building project by February 2005. Claude Perera was born in Kandy and had his education at St Benedict's College, Colombo. He did not forget to pay his gratitude to his scout master Sri Pathmanathan who taught him the value of discipline and being on time. Once he completed his Advanced Level examination he started doing CIMA and also worked as an Audit trainee." By the time I was 21 years I had completed all my CIMA exams." After completing his exams he worked for BCC Lanka as a Management Trainee and Turquand Young and Company the chartered accountancy firm known today as Ernst & Young. "I then proceeded to the UK to do a Masters Degree in Accountancy and finance," he said. He worked in a travel company and moved to a Record manufacturing company as the Group Accountant and company secretary. Pereras next job was at ICC Group PLC a consultancy firm. " I joined as a Financial Analyst and by the time I left to come back to Sri Lanka I was the Head of Research and Development," he said. Once he came back he joined Heath and Company which was going through a management change. " I together with some of my colleagues at Heath and Company left and Started Mabroc Teas in 1988. We started as a bulk tea exporter and today we are a value-added tea exporter. The company also has interests in plantations, property holding, packaging, IT and Music. He is the Commercial and Financial Director and a Director of all its related companies. He has also attended a number of overseas study and training programs. Our mission is to be the leading value added quality tea exporter.
