Ananda's Rs. 67 lakh 'scrum down' for a ground by Ranjan Anandappa Ananda College, Colombo is badly in need of financial assistance from old boys and well-wishers to construct a new rugby grounds. This has been a long felt need for the present ruggerites who have performed exceptionally well auguring well for the future players. The total cost of the construction of the stadium is Rs. 67 lakhs and the stadium will be built in a portion of the present stadium adjoining the swimming pool on a 64,350 square feet which amounts to Rs. 150.00 a square feet. In the 118-year old history of Ananda, better known for its cricket, is only 38 years old and the void of not possessing a rugger stadium of its own has been a notable setback. Ananda will also revive their Two 'leg' rugger 'big match' against Vidyartha, Kandy from this season. The Ananda-Vidyartha encounter began in 1968 as a 'two leg' encounter, but after the early 80s due to some reason they only met once. In the 2004 season Ananda beat Vidyartha in the first 'leg' and the second 'leg' is scheduled to take place on August 8 at Longden Place.
