Taruna Aruna : Rs. 289m amiss

A sum of nearly Rs. 289 million has gone missing from the Taruna Aruna program. According to the accounts of Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Labour, Rs. 490,430,380.00 has been allocated to the Taruna Aruna program. But the accounts of the Taruna Aruna show only Rs. 201,438,060.00 Skills Development, Vocational and Technical Education Minister Piyasena Gamage has ordered an inquiry to probe where this money has gone.

President proposes BIMST-EC infrastructure fund

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga addressing the first ever summit of BIMSTEC held in Bangkok, Thailand proposed to mobilize Asia bond market resources for an infrastructure development fund for the region, to be managed by the interested Central Banks on a commercial lending basis.
