Fashion education in Sri Lanka to get good start The Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (Pvt) Ltd (L.I.F.T), a leading institute for fashion education in Sri Lanka will open up a fashion design boutique in Colombo soon. This will be a gallery type boutique which will display exclusive designs of our students, and mainly work for labels of the garment industry L.I.F.T Managing Director Roshani Leanage said. She said that the L.I.F.T was started five years ago, and has already trained more than 150 students in the fashion and textile industry. The students possesse diploma and advanced diploma fashion designe certificates from the institute. Leanage said that her Institute conducts diploma and advanced diploma course programs that are equivalent to first and second year degree program of University College Northampton - UK (UCN) on fashion and textile design. L.I.F.T is a centre for training fashion designers to develop sense of class and style. It provides a wide range of levels in fashion education as per requirements of the garment industry, she said. This Institute is in collaborated with UCN and has been registered under the tertiary and vocational educational commission of Sri Lanka, Roshani Leanage said. World class education is our language. Students are our strength. Providing the best of facilities to the discerning has been a constant endeavour of the Institute, she added . She also said that the L.I.F.T conducts an annual fashion show to display creative fashion designs of her students by Indian models, and awards are given for the best fashion designs.
