Seylan's Merit Rewards scheme celebrates three years

"Seylan Merit Rewards" will celebrate its third year .The scheme was started in 2001 and after three years Seylan Bank's Merit Rewards remains the most innovative customers' rewards scheme offered by any bank in Sri Lanka.

Brand Manager of the scheme,Nalin Karunaratne explaining the scheme said that it is unique because you are rewarded on specific occasions for being a current or savings account holder of the Seylan Bank.You do not have to pay back the bank.Merit rewards are not loans or a lottery.

If you wish to qualify for a Merit Rewards Grant, you should maintain a minimum balance of Rs.20,000 in your savings account for a continuous period of 6 calendar months immediately preceding the event or you should maintain a minimum credit balance of Rs.10,000 in your current account for a continuous period of six calendar months immediately preceding the event, Karunaratne added.

He said that within these three years there are more than 5000 customers who have received Merit Rewards gifts and monetary benefits.He said that they have a good demand for this scheme.The only scheme which extends benefits to the immediate family members in addition to the account holder.

"We give gifts and grants under nine categories,which include Surgery,Professional Education,Sports-Drama-Art and Music,Comforting you in your sorrow,Inventions,Marriage,Accident or Natural Disasters.

The other two significant occasions when Merit Rewards presents special gifts to its customers is on your 60th birthday and the birth of your baby.

Further, he said that immediate family members are also included in the Merit Rewards scheme.If the account holder is married,they include the spouse and unmarried children under 18 years of age are also entitled for the benefits and if the account holder is unmarried, parents,brothers and sisters who are below the age of 18 are eligible for the benefits. All claims under the scheme should be submitted within three months of the event.

Speaking of future plans,Karunaratne said that they hope to reward more customers.Also customers can now obtain details of merit rewards through the bank's website. (www.eseylan.com)
