Cabinet Decisions

Cabinet cancels 528 land transactions

Cabinet meting on Wednesday (4) decided to cancel 528 land transactions carried out during the period January 2001 - March 2003 through the Land Reform Commission (LRC). From these transactions 190 are in connection with construction of houses while 243 transactions were alienated for agriculture and 95 transactions for other purposes.

The Cabinet spokesmen said that lands belonging to the Sinharaja reserve are also among such transactions and all these lands were given to politicians or persons recommended by them. The cabinet paper was presented by the president.

Baseline Road development project 3rd stage approved

Cabinet approved the 3rd stage of the Baseline Road Development Project and allocated a sum of Rs.4719 million to it. The paper was presented by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksha. Under this project 7.5 Km of road, stretching from Kirulapona to Maliban Junction at Ratmalana will be developed. The project will be funded by the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation.

Government involved in sales of agro inputs and machineries

Cabinet approved a paper presented by the Minister of Agriculture to end the private monopolies and cartels in the agro inputs and machineries market by introducing the government into the business. It aims to reduce the price and improve the quality of seeds and other agro inputs.

Rs.80 million was allocated to establish a circular loan scheme to provide loan facilities for farmers to purchase agro machineries and equipment.

Permanent jobs for Surveying Science graduates

Cabinet approved recruitment of 92 Unemployed Surveying Science Graduates of Sabaragamuwa University for vacancies in the Survey Department. Since they have obtained a professional degree they will get permanent jobs and there will not be a training period. The paper was presented by Minister of Agriculture Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Milco products to all government Institutions

Cabinet decided to direct all government institutions to purchase Milco products at their needs as a measure of promoting local dairy products.
