Plantation youth to get 8,000 jobs

Nearly 8,000 appointments will be made to fill vacancies in the plantation sector, Community Development and Estate Infrastructure Ministry Secretary Dr.P.Ramanujam told the Sunday Observer.

Teaching appointments would be given to nearly three thousand applicants, while others would be absorbed in to the public sector such as health care, social development and sports, he said.

He also told the Ministry had formulated a policy on housing development in the plantations." Single or twin houses would be built on a seven perch land. If the land was not available, a two-storeyed building would be constructed.

D.A. Prasad Indika Gunarathne a 14-year-old from No. 126/1, Kopiyawatte, Mahara, Kadawatha is suffering from a malignant oral cancer.

Doctors have recommended special medication and it requires Rs. 120,000 for six dosages according to Dr. Kanthi Perera, specialist of Kandy Base Hospital. His mother is unable to bear the cost of his medication. She seeks assistance from the general public to save her son's life.

L.G. Upul Nishanha (34) has been diagnosed to be having a tumour in the left frontal temporal region of the brain.

He has been seen by Dr. Sunil Perera, Consultant Neurosurgeon, who has expressed his willingness to perform the surgery at the Asiri Surgical Hospital. The estimated cost of the surgery is around Rs. 500,000.
