Indian PM's birthplace in Pakistan to be made model village ISLAMABAD, Saturday (AFP) Pakistani Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Thursday declared the birthplace of his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh in central Punjab province a "model village" as a goodwill gesture to strengthen bilateral ties, officials said. Singh was born in the village of Gah in Chakwal district, some 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of Islamabad in 1932, some 15 years before the subcontinent was partitioned into India and Pakistan. The village is to be upgraded with better road and communication facilities. Shujaat directed the Punjab government to rename the primary school at Gah as Manmohan Singh Government Boys Primary School, an official statement said. Shujaat took the decision as "a gesture of goodwill to strengthen the ongoing peace process between Pakistan and India," it said. |
