Police come out with Action Plan by Anton Nonis The indiscriminate killings in the city and the suburbs made the police to tighten security measures according to the Inspector General of Police, Indra de Silva. An `Action Plan' has been worked out to curb crime and bring the offenders to book, IGP told the `Sunday Observer'. The IGP's action plan would involve the forming of five police teams of well trained hand picked men. They will be in readiness to move to any part of the city or in the suburbs at short notice. Police will patrol the streets. The radio cars will be in direct link with the communications panel set up at the Inspector General's command room at Mirihana. In addition, de Silva also said that police are targeting for the establishment of a mega telecommunications network that will cover the entire country. The facility would be set up in three stages, in which the first stage is planned to be installed next month. The security arrangement has been set up directly under the command of the Deputy Inspector General of Crimes, Jayantha Wickremaratne. |
