CWC sees good opportunity by S. Selvakumar The Ceylon Workers' Congress which extended unconditional support to the UPFA government now wants the government make use of this good opportunity to develop the country and solve burning issues. "This is a good opportunity the government has got. It is no more a minority government" CWC Financial Secretary and Nuwara Eliya District Parliamentarian Muththu Sivalingam said yesterday. Asked whether any Cabinet portfolios are in the offing, he said already two deputy ministerships were promised but they are not very keen on it. "We will accept portfolios that will help serve our community. If that is forthcoming then of course we will accept it," he further said. On the peace process Sivalingam said talks should be based on the LTTE's ISGA proposals and when reminded about JVP's opposition to start talks based on the ISGA proposals he noted that it was an internal problem within the Government and the CWC expects the President to talk to the JVP and solve the issue. He also said that their leader Arumugam Thondaman left the country yesterday for an urgent private matter and will be back within a couple of days. Thereafter the CWC will seek a meeting with the President to seek her support to serve the plantation sector. |
