Sunday Observer New look from September 12 From Sunday September 12, 2004, the Sunday Observer will come out in a new and more attractive format. Designed anew as a family paper it will have separate sections for each member of the family from children to parents and even grandparents. An important value addition will be a 16-page colour tabloid newspaper for children called the Junior Observer. Incidentally, the Junior Observer will be the first English language newspaper for children in Sri Lanka. Shell Gas dearer? There is speculation that Shell is planning to increase the gas price once again this month. The price of a 12.5 Kg cylinder was increased by Rs.70 last month. According to a spokesman of the company, a price increase by Rs. 90 or Rs.100 has been planned for a 12.5 Kg cylinder. But, when the `Sunday Observer' contacted the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Chairman, M.I.M Mushin, he said the CAA had not given permission for any price increase of gas. Consumers say the price of gas is too high at present. "If it is going to be increased again, by Rs.90 or so, it would be unbearable." Mushin meanwhile said, the CAA has not taken a decision to increase gas prices. "It is still under consideration and the decision will be made on September 13," he said. Hostage drama : Over 322 killed Beslan, Russia, Sept 4 (Reuters) At least 322 people, including 155 children, died during the bloody end to a hostage taking at a school in southern Russia, a senior prosecutor said on Saturday. "As a reuslt of the terrorist acts 322 people were killed, 155 of whom were children," Duputy Prosecutor-General Sergei Fridinsky told reporters. "I think the death toll will rise, but probably not very much". A total of 25 militants were killed. None of them were captured alive, Fridinsky said. Heart patient seeks help B. L. Chatuni Imesha (27 months old) is suffering from a heart ailment. The Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist Dr. Sivakumar of Apollo Hospital who examined her says that she has a hole in the heart and she should be operated before 6 months to save her life. This operation needs three and a half lakhs of rupees (Rs. 350,000). Imesha is the only child of B. L. G. Russel Manjula of Dompe, whose only livelihood is selling shopping bags and he is unable to find such a big amount of money for her surgery, because he has no other source of income or property.
