MAS Bodyline wins National HRM Award

MAS Bodyline was adjudged the overall winner of The National HRM Award 2003 at the Award Ceremony held last week in Colombo.

The event was conducted by The Association of Human Resources Professionals (HRP), The Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) and The Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) for the 2nd successive year. The HR Awards were organized to raise awareness of the potential and ability and improve standards of Human Resources processes, practices and policies.

MAS Bodyline was selected from among 32 companies in the private sector. All contenders were evaluated based on eleven dimensions of HRM: Strategy: HRM policy fit; resourcing; training and development, performance management, reward systems, career and succession planning, employee relations, industrial relations, employee welfare, HRM information system, and social responsibility by a distinguished panel of judges headed by Prof. Gunapala Nanayakkara, Prof. David Evans, Prof. T. V. Rao of India, Lasantha Salgado and Prema Cooray.

A joint venture between Limited Brands (USA), Triumph International (Germany) and MAS Holdings (Sri Lanka), MAS Bodyline is a manufacturer of ladies foundation apparel, and is ranked as one of the largest foundation apparel manufacturers in South East Asia.

The 300,000 sq. ft. plant employs over 5,000 persons and produces for labels such as Victoria's Secret, both retail and catalogue, Lane Bryant and Triumph.

The state-of-the-art manufacturing facility produces approximately 10 million pieces per annum, and accounts for 2% of garment exports of the country.

MAS Bodyline's dedication to maintaining stringent quality, productivity standards and excellent employee relations has resulted in winning various awards over the years including Victoria's Secret Standard of Excellence (1998), National Productivity Award (1999), MAST Quality Award (1999), Taiki Akimoto 5S Award (1999), Most Energy Efficient Installation Award (1999), National Quality Award (2000), NCE Export Award (Silver Medal - 2000) Most Outstanding Exporters (2001), ISO 9000 Certification (2002), WRAP Certification (2003), Best Finance Team (2003), ISO 14001:1996 and Dave Ranasinghe, the Managing Director was awarded the Best CEO of the Best Employee Involvement Organisation (2001/2002).

Notable HR practices of MAS Bodyline includes a diverse range of strategic initiatives across the board such as a fully Integrated Human Resource Management System accessible to all employees, a Performance Management System incorporating a 360 degree feedback process, training and development and career progression opportunities for all employees and the provision of a variety of welfare facilities such as the Medical Centre, transport to and from work and an in-house automated banking facility.

MAS Bodyline as a socially responsible organization has contributed to society through various projects including educational scholarships for school leavers in the locality, donation of educational material and equipment to schools in the area, development of hospitals in Horana and Ingiriya and construction of houses under the Ranaviru Gama Housing Project.

MAS Slimline was adjudged the winner for Most Innovative HR practices - Large Scale Manufacturing Sector at the Award Ceremony which highlights MAS Holdings commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility.
