Two subjects in single course

For the first time in Sri Lanka, a new and innovative dual purpose training course will be launched soon, under the brand name Tre-K (training for e - knowledge). This course is geared to give O/Level, A/Level and undergraduate students as well as the employed, the opportunity of acquiring English language proficiency and computer literacy in one single course.

Behind this new initiative is the e-Drive (Pvt) Ltd. A new company situated at 129/8, 1/1, High Level Road, Kirulapone. It has been launched by 4 enterprising professionals whose expertise spans across instructional design, multi-media and IT product development, training and education. The e-Drive specializes in conceptualizing designing and production of multi-media educational training tools such as printed modules, radio and TV programmes and interactive CD ROMs according to client specifications.

This new unique outfit is headed by the Shiranee Dissanayake radio announcer, TV personality, journalist and multi-media specialist. She says that as the government has placed a great deal of importance on English language and IT training, the Tre-K concept was conceived and developed by them, to help speedily equip the Sri Lankan workforce with English and computer knowledge, which are two vital competencies that are sadly lacking particularly among the rural population.

The English Language course is based on two text books written by Professor Rajiva Wijesinghe and Oranee Jansz. It is designed to help students to improve their reading, writing, comprehension, communication and thinking skills. What is unique about this course is that students will acquire basic computer literacy in hardware and software, file management, word processing, spreadsheets internet and e - mail while acquiring proficiency in English.

At the end of this course students will be adequately equipped to face the Basic English Language Proficiency Exam leading to the Basic English Proficiency Certificate awarded by the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.
