Swiss Minister in Colombo Foreign Affairs Minister of Switzerland Micheline Calmy-Rey arrived in Sri Lanka on Friday, October 8 on a four day official visit. The Swiss Minister was received at the Bandaranaike International Airport by Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pamela Deen and the Swiss Ambassador in Sri Lanka Ambassador Bernandino Regazzoni. Minister Calmy-Rey was accompanied by officials from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. Minister Calmy-Rey will pay courtesy calls on President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse during her stay. The Swiss Foreign Minister called on Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar yesterday October 9 and the two Ministers held bilateral talks. The talks covered a wide range of issues of mutual bilateral interest including economic and trade relations and investment. The visiting Swiss Minister is also scheduled to meet the Leader of the Opposition Ranil Wickremesinghe. The Swiss Foreign Minister's visit also coincides with the regional conference of Swiss Ambassadors, which is being held in Colombo. Minister Calmy-Rey will leave on Tuesday, October 12. |
