Expect exciting fare at rally cross on November 6 and 7

Over 100 riders and drivers are expected to compete at the 4th Talduwa Rally Cross 2004 organised by the Sri Lanka Army Motor Sports Committee (SLAMSC) Sri Lanka Army Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) and conducted by Motor Racing Association (MRA) and Sri Lanka Racing Riders' Association (SLRRA) to be held at Talduwa Kelani Valley Club premises, Avissawella on November 6.

Brigadier Vasantha Bandara, President of SLAMSC said so at the press briefing held at the SLEME Headquarters, Colombo 2 on Tuesday evening.

Brigadier Bandara said that this is the one and only Rally Cross to be held in Sri Lanka and they will make every effort to make it the best possible motor racing event. SLAMSC and SLEME is thankful to Motor Racing Association and Sri Lanka Racing Riders' Association for assisting in conducting this event and also thanked the sponsors TVS Lanka (Pvt) Limited and the other co-sponsors.

All proceeds of this event will be utilised for the welfare of disabled, killed, and soldiers missing in action and their families, added the Brigadier.

Entries will open on October 14 and close on October 29. The entries should be sent to MRA, 791/19A' Edward Place, Colombo 6 or Commandant, Regimental Headquarters - SLEME, P.O. Box 553, Colombo 2.

In addition to motorcycle and cars, truck and jeep events, there will be special motorcycle events for children under-16 and kids under-10 and above 5 years. Organisers have decided to give away cash prizes for all events. However, the children will receive gift vouchers.

The events will start at 9.00 a.m. on November 7 (finals) and the time trials on November 6 also starting from 9.00 a.m.

The events to be held: Motorcycle - kids under-10 years 55 CC (2 laps), street trail 80CC (4 laps), street trail 125 CC (4 laps), street trail 250 CC (5 laps) street trail open (6 laps), racing 80 CC under and including 16 years (4 laps) racing 80 CC (4 laps), racing 125 CC (6 laps), racing 250 CC and open (8 laps).

There will be an open Ladies event too 105 CC depending on the entries received. Winners in the motorcycle events will also receive trophies.

Cars/truck/jeep events are - mini 1000 CC standard, group N cars upto 1500 CC (Armed Forces), trucks and jeeps diesel open (Armed Forces), group A cars upto 1600 CC, group N cars for Lasar/Mazda 1500 CC (one make), group N cars upto 1400 CC, trucks, jeeps diesel upto 3000 CC (not Turbo), trucks, jeeps diesel Turbo upto 5000 CC.

Group N cars upto 1600 CC, group N cars upto 3500 CC, group A cars upto 1400 CC, group N cars upto 1600 CC DOHCVTEC/VVTI, trucks, jeeps, open (Diesel Petrol), Group A - cars upto 3500 CC. All winners will be presented with trophies.

Major Indu Samarakoon, Secretary, SLAMSC, Col. Ajith Jayakoddy, Col. Simith Padumdasa both committee members SLAMSC, Anthony Tranchell, President Motor Racing Association and Richard de Zoysa (MRA) were also associated at the press briefing.
