Plenty Foods Pvt Ltd, the processor and the marketeers of the popular food brands of "Samaposha", and 'Prosoya', sells approximately three hundred metric tons, of 'Samaposha' per month.

Eighty three percent (83%) of the raw materials such as Corn, Soya, Green gram and Rice are obtained from the local farmers through the farmer mobilisation scheme, of the company.

Whereas the raw materials are concerned, the company has reached 'self-sufficiency', says the Managing Director of Plenty Foods Ltd, E. P. A. J. Nelson.

Nelson, a post-graduate, MBA in UK, a FCMA holder is also a Group Director of Link Holdings Group, which commands Engineering, Marketing, Real Estate Development and Indigenous Medicine Products.

Plenty Foods (Pvt) Ltd commenced its operation in April 1996, taking over Plenty Canada Project in Pallekale, Kandy.

The principal food product processed and sold by 'Plenty Food' is "Samaposha" a nutritious cereal made from Soya, Corn, Green gram and Rice enriched with eleven essential vitamins and minerals.

The nutrition profile of 'Samaposha' can be compared favourably with that of imported cereals, according to Nelson.

'Through our brand loyalty exercise, implemented by our sales and marketing team all over the island, we won the people who represent the entire gamut of our society', Nelson said.

The quantum of 'Samaposha' sold per month is approximately 1.2 million of the 200 gram pack size, and 700,000 of 80 gram pack size tonnage (the quantum sold per month in terms of tonnage is approximately three hundred metric tons.

The product is principally consumed by schoolchildren, campus students, garment factory workers, elders, pregnant and lactating mothers, drawn from the lower and middle income groups.

The farmer mobilisation program to cultivate Corn, Soya, Green gram and Rice (according to statistics available) total annual extent last year, is 7,250 acres in extent.
