Remains of four Lankans arrive tomorrow by Ananda Kannangara The Public Communications Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday confirmed that the remains of the four Sri Lankan women employees who were killed in a highway accident in Saudi Arabia will be flown to Sri Lanka tomorrow, Oct. 25. It is reported that the remains of these workers who died on October 17, will be handed over to the next of kin at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake in the presence of officials attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE). Speaking to the Sunday Observer, a senior Deputy Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that normal formalities will have to be followed by the Lankan Embassy in Riyadh before the remains are sent to Sri Lanka. The tragedy had occurred on October 17 at Al Aflaj town, 360 km from the capital Riyadh, when the company bus in which they were travelling from Nijran to Riyadh collided with an on coming petrol bowser. Out of 41 passengers in the bus, 37 were Sri Lankans. The deceased were Preethika Priyangani of Tangalle, Nilakshi Priyadharshani Perera of Panadura, Anula Neelakanthi of Narammala and Anushika Dilrukshi of Weeraketiya. |
