PM chief guest at SLITAD national parley The Sri Lanka Institute of Training and Developmewnt (SLITAD) will hold its third National Conference on the theme "Aligning Training and Development to the Emergency Skills" at the BMICH on November 5, with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse as the chief guest. At a press conference last week, the IGP Chandra Fernando, who is also the SLITAD President, told newsmen that globalisation and information technology were two crucial trends perceptively transforming the present business environment, forcing organisations to reform their strategies for survival. Relevance of these trends to the Sri Lankan economy was of paramount importance and we should proactively engage in developing new competencies to meet these challenges. The conference seeks to examine the strategies in the Sri Lankan context and recommend approaches and methodologies to address these new competencies. The training would be a multi-disciplinary approach, he said. The SLITAD Secretary, A. Joseph, said that a host of eminent professionals who had excelled in the field of Human Resource Development (HRD) would make presentations at the technical sessions of this national event. Vocational and Technical Education Ministry Secretary and Moratuwa University Vice Chancellor Professor Dayantha Wijesekera will be the keynote speaker on "Avenues for Tertiary Education for Training and Development". IDM Group of Companies Chairman, Dr. Bandu Ranasinghe, will speak on "Human Resources Challenges of Emerging Technologies and, Post Graduate Institute of Management (PIM), Sri Jayawardenepura University, Dr. A.K.L. Jayawardena, will speak on "Meeting the quota free challenge of the garment industry". Senior Consultant on Human Resources Development at PIM, Sri Jayawardenepura University, Dr. Travis Perera will speak on "Training Metrics and HRD Scorecard for Strategic Training" and former NAITA Chairman, will speak on "Developing Human Capital". Joseph said that their vision was to make the SLITAD a centre of excellence in the region for competence building. The institute in pursuing that vision was currently conducting two academic programmes - the National Diploma in Training and Development and the Certificate Course on Training and Development. R M |
