An anxious father Nimal Piyatissa, a Police Sergeant attached to the President's office in an exclusive interview to the 'Sunday Observer' said that their immediate need was a pleasant home where he could reside with his wife Chamila and the epoch-making quintuplets. "We are temporarily residing at Mt. Lavinia until the police quarters at Bambalapitiya are ready for occupation. At present, there is some 'painting work' in progress", he said. Piyatissa said that to-date, the Chief Priest of the Gangaramaya temple had donated Rs. 250,000, President Chandrika Kumaratunga has pledged Rs. 5,000 per mensum for two years, Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has pledged Rs. 5,000 per mensum for five years and Women's Affairs Minister Sumedha P. Jayasena has issued two cheques to the value of Rs. 25,000 each. The National Savings Bank has opened savings accounts for the five babies. A benevolent doctor who wishes to be unidentified has pledged Rs. 2,000 monthly until his demise. The Lakspray company has also agreed to supply free milkfood for the three baby daughters and two sons for one year. The ASP Group of Companies has gifted a buildable land at Meepe and has already handed over the 'deed' to them. The Lions Club has agreed to construct a house for the family in due course. "My wife Chamila and the babies have been discharged from the Castle Street Hospital and are keeping fine. However one baby presumed to be weak and under-weight with 1.16 kg, is still under hospital care. I wish to convey my heart-felt gratitude to Dr. Ranjith Almeida and Dr. Karandagoda", Piyatissa added. |
