Culture and Beach - theme at WTM by Reggie Fernando, London Corr The Sri Lanka Tourist Board (SLTB) is planning to launch a tremendous thrust to promote the country among hundreds and hundreds of travel agents from another 190 countries at the forthcoming World Travel Market (WTM).Celebrating its silver anniversary this year the WTM is scheduled to be staged on November 8 to 11 at London's ExCel Exhibition centre. A large number from Sri Lanka's Tourism fraternity representing 57 companies will participate and it is felt that Sri Lanka, as a destination with a strong image, particularly with the growth it has achieved in the UK market, should enable them to establish new business opportunities. The Sunday Observer also understands that a formidable team of Tourist Board and SriLankan Airlines officials will be there to back these men and women from Sri Lanka's tourist industry to entice the world's travel agents offering them some of the greatest of goodies no other country can offer. Meanwhile SLTB has negotiated an increased floor area for this year's pavilion by 13% giving us a total of 246.5 square metres (pavilion dimension is 17m x 14.5m). In addition the pavilion will also have an upper deck to provide extra space and will be sited in the Asia Pacific area surrounded by Malaysia, Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan and SriLankan Airlines stands. The theme for the Sri Lanka Tourism pavilion will be 'Culture and Beach' and an impressive Yapahuwa monument constructed by SLTB in Sri Lanka will be featured at the entrance to the stand along with a Sri Lankan catamaran depicting the Sri Lankan beach. |
