Not shadow cabinet - Attanayake by Rohan Mathes UNP will hold its 50th Party Convention, at the Colombo Town Hall on December 5, the UNP Deputy General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said. Tissa Attanayake told the Sunday Observer that this convention would be of special significance to the party as it would precede the crucial Presidential election next year. Attanayake further said that they were successfully going ahead with their party re-organisation process, and would also appoint new electoral Chief Organisers shortly, commencing next Wednesday, October27. He clarified certain media reports pertaining to 'shadow cabinet' of the UNP, stating that the concept had been misunderstood and misinterpreted. What they intended and formed was a 'Ministerial Supervisory Committee' to probe and report to Parliament on malpractices and irregularities in the various subject ministries, the budget proposals and government expenditure among others. They had been selected for the various ministerial portfolios based on their individual preferences. Certain amount of duplicity had taken place in this process resulting in minor differences of opinion. "We will hold our protest campaigns in Ratnapura and Chilaw and continue in other places as well until October end", Tissa Attanayake further said. |
