Sri Lanka in inaugural Asia Cup for blind cricketers The first Asia Cup cricket tournament for the blind will be held in Sharjah from November 27 to December 2 this year. There will be three teams in the tourney - India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, ten teams from Sri Lanka are presently engaged in an islandwide tourney in order to select the best Sri Lanka squad for the Asia Cup tourney. Sir Garfield Sobers - the West Indian cricket great, has consented to be the Hony. President of the World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC) while another West Indian senior Desmond Haynes is the Hony. Patron. The above appointments were made at the 9th Annual General Meeting of the WBCC held in Islamabad, Pakistan from October 8 to 12. Rienzie Benedict - Secretary of the National Cricket Association of the Blind in Sri Lanka represented the NCAB. The third World Cup tourney for the visually handicapped will be held in Capetown, South Africa in November 2006. |
